Stage 5 - Return to Sport
Time period: Six months and beyond
The goal, at this point, is to facilitate a safe return to sport with safety and confidence.
- May safely perform open chain quadriceps work (i.e. leg extensions)
- Proceed in the development of plyometrics and sport-specific drills
- Participate in skill exercises and return to training
- Continue to enhance power and endurance.
Modifications may be required when returning to sport, to reflect the specific demands of each sport. For example, a footballer by start training in running shoes or short springs, initially returning to the lower grades. A skier must stay on groomed slopes, initially avoiding moguls and off piste.
